On behalf of the entire Special Olympics Maryland family, thank you for your generous contribution to The 14th Annual Polar Bear Plunge.

Who Does This Benefit?
The MSP Polar Bear Plunge benefits Special Olympics Maryland and the 10,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities who experience the life-changing benefits of participating in the organization's year-round training and competition programs — all at no cost to themselves or their families.

As a Special Olympics Maryland (SOMD) athlete whose life has changed very much for the better through being a part of this program, it makes me very happy to thank you for your donation.

I think that maybe the most important thing you should know about Special Olympics Maryland is that this program makes me feel like I belong. People who are like me and have an intellectual disability are often left out and made to feel as if they aren’t part of the “in” crowd. But Special Olympics is my “in” crowd, and I am very proud to be a part of this family. SOMD has helped make so many of my dreams come true. Your donation is what makes that possible.

All year long, I have the opportunity to compete in different SOMD sports, and other leadership activities. For example, I am one of two SOMD athletes who sit on the Board of Directors. Right now I train and compete in alpine skiing, swimming, kayaking and soccer. These sports are good for my health, AND my social life because it’s a way to both stay in shape and meet and hang out with my friends.
